Sound familiar?
Why care owners get stuck at exactly the point they start to grow.
You were a brilliant care manager. Now you own the business.
Nobody showed you how to structure a company, build a management team or scale it. You learned care, not business.
Growth means more chaos, not more freedom.
Every new package, home or contract adds to your day. You’re time poor, on call, and the business can’t run a day without you.
The money doesn’t match the work.
Funding arrives late, wages don’t wait, and turnover is up while what you take home isn’t.
Your people are the business, and the hardest part.
Recruiting, keeping and leading good staff, and managers who don’t quite manage yet.
What we work on
Structure, cash and people, so growth stops meaning chaos.
- A management team that gives you your time back. The structure, roles and accountability so your managers run the day-to-day and you lead the business. This is the work that has made the biggest difference for the care owners I work with.
- Cash flow you can see coming. Your numbers on one page, a cash forecast you trust, margin by service, and what the business should be paying off for you as its owner.
- People management that holds. Recruiting, onboarding, retention and holding managers to account, so good people stay and the standards don’t depend on you being in the room.
- Management systems that scale. Simple systems for rotas, reporting, decisions and meetings, so a new home, contract or package adds growth, not chaos.

Fig. · What care owners can expect
What you’re left with, as the business grows.
- Managers who run the day-to-day, so it stops landing on you
- Your evenings and weekends back
- Cash flow you can see weeks ahead, not on the day wages go out
- Rotas and staffing gaps handled by your team
- Good staff who stay, and managers who hold the standard
- A new home, package or contract that adds profit, not chaos
- Compliance joined up with the business, through partners I trust
- The option to step back: a managing director or general manager runs it, you own it
- More profit and dividends paid to you, not just more turnover
- Time with your family, and a legacy that outlasts you
- A business worth more when you sell, because it doesn’t depend on you
An example, anonymised
From outstanding care manager to an owner with time back.
One supported living owner found me by searching for a business coach. They had been an outstanding care manager, and the business had grown around them: every package, every staffing gap and every decision came back to their desk, and more growth only meant more of it. They knew care inside out, and said openly that they didn’t know how to structure or scale a business.
The work that made the biggest difference was building a management team underneath them: clear roles, managers who own their area, and a weekly rhythm for the numbers and the decisions, so the day-to-day stopped depending on the owner. I see the same pattern across care, and it’s where we start.
Who I work with
Every part of care, the same business problems.
Supported living
More tenancies, more staff, more packages, and every one of them still running through you.
Children’s homes
A second or third home on the way, Ofsted to stay on top of, and a team that needs leading, not just managing.
Domiciliary care
Rotas, travel time, carers you can’t afford to lose and calls you can’t afford to miss.
Care homes
Occupancy, agency staff costs and a management team that still brings every decision to you.
Compliance
CQC and Ofsted, covered if you need it
Most care owners already have compliance in hand, and it isn’t what they come to me for. But a business that grows fast has more to keep on top of. If you need it, I bring in compliance specialists I work with as part of the package, so the business side and the compliance side pull in the same direction.
Why me
A mentor who owns businesses, including in care.
I own and invest in businesses in medical technology, manufacturing, care and supported living, marketing and sales, and accounting and finance, and I’ve coached owners of 100+ businesses since 2012. I’ve had to build the management team, hand over the day-to-day and get the cash flow right in my own companies. That’s what I bring to yours.
Care is fast, demanding and growing, and it carries more risk than most sectors when the structure is wrong. Getting help isn’t a weakness here. It’s how the owners who scale do it.
“He understands owner-led businesses well, in particular how hard it is to stop doing the work and start running the company.”
Questions care owners ask
Do you work with supported living, children’s homes and domiciliary care?
Yes, all of them, and care homes too. I’ve worked with owners in each. The business problems are the same across them: a management team that needs building, cash flow that needs controlling, and an owner with no time left.
Do you do CQC or Ofsted compliance?
Compliance isn’t what owners come to me for, and most already have it in hand. If you need it, I can bring in compliance specialists I work with as part of the package, so the business side and the compliance side are joined up.
I came up through care, not business. Is this for me?
Yes. Most care owners I work with were excellent care managers who then found themselves running a company. You know care. I help with the part nobody trained you for: structure, numbers, people and scaling, from someone who owns businesses himself.
Can you help with a business plan for a care business?
Yes, for a domiciliary care, supported living, children’s home or care home business that is already running and wants to grow. The planning day builds it with you, in your business, on your own numbers: where the business is stuck, what it should pay off for you, and the structure, cash flow and team to get there.
How much does it cost?
Business mentoring from £800 a month plus VAT, with every price published. A planning day in your business is £2,000 plus VAT. If your business needs something specific, I’ll put together a tailored quote.
Do you work outside Birmingham?
Yes. I’m based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Planning days happen in person in your business, anywhere in the UK; monthly sessions run in person or on Zoom.
