How much does a business mentor cost? Choose the rhythm; support between sessions comes with every one.
| Mentoring | Price | What it includes | Built for, and what you can expect | Compare it to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Monthly mentoring | £800a month, plus VAT | A monthly session, plus support between sessions. | Owners who know what needs doing and want someone to hold them to it. A plan you actually follow, one priority finished every month, and decisions you stop putting off. | Less than two days of a freelance management consultant, for a whole month of mentoring and support. |
Fortnightly mentoring | £1,600a month, plus VAT | A session every two weeks, plus support between sessions. | Owners in a busy stretch: a key hire, a restructure, a push on margin. Faster progress, problems caught before they cost you, and a management structure taking shape. | About two-thirds of what a junior employee costs. |
Weekly mentoring | £2,500a month, plus VAT | A weekly session, plus support between sessions. Team training included. | Owners scaling hard, with a team to bring along. The day-to-day moving to your team, training for them included, and your week back for the work only you can do. | About the same as a junior hire. The difference is you get someone who owns businesses, sitting at your table every week. |
Owner and leadership team coaching | £3,500a month, plus VAT | Executive coaching for you and your senior leadership team. | Owners with a senior team who need to think and decide like owners. Leaders who make the calls without you, one plan the whole team owns, and a business worth more because it doesn’t depend on you. | UK executive coaching usually costs £200–£450 an hour for one person. This covers you and your senior team. |
Tailored programme | Quotedfor your business, plus VAT | Built around your business: the rhythm, the support and who from your team is involved. | Owners who don’t fit a set package, or want something specific. A programme shaped to where the business is now and where you want it to go. | Request a tailored quote |
You might not need a set programme. Tell me what the business needs on a virtual coffee call, and I’ll put together a quote built for you.
Fractional leadership: scope and fee agreed in writing, from £5,500 a month.

Priced like a hire. Works like an owner at your table.
Weekly mentoring costs about the same as a junior hire. The difference is you get someone who owns businesses, sitting at your table every week.
£2,500 a monthWeekly mentoring
About the same as a junior hire
A £25,000 junior costs about £28,600 a year with employer costs: £2,380 a month, before recruitment, kit and the months it takes them to get up to speed.
Plus VAT, which VAT-registered businesses reclaim. Employer costs are employer National Insurance and the minimum workplace pension, 2026/27. Mentoring runs month to month on 30 days’ notice; a hire doesn’t.
Between sessions
Wrap-around support, not just a session.
Most coaches stop at the session. Between sessions, you get wrap-around support on Teams, WhatsApp and by phone. I’m a business owner too, so I know the things that keep you up at night. With weekly mentoring and above, training for your team is included.

The other price
What not changing costs
The price that never appears on an invoice is the one you pay by carrying on as you are. We work it out in your own numbers on the planning day, never in invented ones:
- The profit leak you leave in the business for another year.
- The hours you spend doing a manager’s job instead of an owner’s.
- The cost of one bad hire.
- A business worth less when you sell, because it still depends on you.
Sectors
I’ve coached and mentored owners across care and supported living, recruitment, construction and civil engineering, fire safety and risk management, manufacturing, IT, telecoms and AI, distribution and warehousing, property development, accountancy, marketing and lead generation, management consulting, arboriculture, security, mobility and healthcare equipment, and medical technology — and I own and invest in businesses in several of those myself. Chances are I’ve already sat at the table of an owner in your sector. But that isn’t what makes the difference. What does is that I own and run businesses myself, so I’m not advising from a textbook.
Questions
Business coaching rates: questions owners ask
How much does a business coach cost with Dr Lewis Haydon?
Business mentoring starts at £800 a month plus VAT for a monthly session with support between sessions. A session every two weeks is £1,600 a month, weekly is £2,500 a month, and coaching for you and your senior leadership team is £3,500 a month. A planning day is £2,000 plus VAT, and the first step is a 30-minute virtual coffee.
Is there a minimum contract?
No. Coaching runs month to month, with no fixed-term contract. If you want to stop, give 30 days’ notice.
What does “support between sessions” mean?
Wrap-around support outside your coaching sessions, on Teams, WhatsApp and by phone. I’m a business owner too, so I know the cash flow and people problems that keep you up at night don’t wait for the next session. Training for your team is included with weekly mentoring and above.
Do you work outside Birmingham?
Yes. I’m based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Planning days happen in person in your business; monthly sessions run in person or on Zoom for owners anywhere in the UK and abroad.
Do I have to start with a planning day?
It’s the usual first step, because it’s where we find what’s holding the business back and what it should be paying off for you. If you’d rather start smaller, the virtual gap analysis covers the same ground on Zoom, and its fee is refunded if you become a monthly client.
